Understanding Custom Device Modes

Custom device modes allow you to configure certain device behaviours on a per-tenant basis. Changing settings on this menu will affect all devices in a tenant.

inReach

You can remotely begin monitoring or enable a Check-In Schedule when using your inReach device. Note that if using Check-In Schedule mode, the schedule must first be assigned to the device from the Portal. Similarly, if using Monitoring mode, the monitoring interval must first be assigned to the device from the Portal.

For the inReach device, these modes are controlled by 3 preset messages on the device. For Check-In Schedule mode, preset 1 is used to enable the schedule, preset 2 to check in, and preset 3 to disable the schedule. If using Monitoring mode, preset 1 is used to begin monitoring, preset 2 to check in, and preset 3 to end monitoring.

SPOT

You can remotely begin monitoring or enable a Check-In Schedule when using your SPOT device. Note that if using Check-In Schedule mode, the schedule must first be assigned to the device from the Portal. Similarly, if using Monitoring mode, the monitoring interval must first be assigned to the device from the Portal.

When using Check-In Schedule mode for a SPOT device the check-in button is used to enable the assigned Check-In Schedule (and for subsequent check-ins) and the custom text button is used to disable the schedule. If using Monitoring mode, the check-in button is used to begin monitoring and the help button to end monitoring.

GAP Guardian App

You can configure whether check-in reminders are sent via SMS or as push notifications. Push Notifications is the recommended default.
